One evening,
P.P.Doctorjee came to our Shakha, and requested the Mukhya Shikshaka to close
it early. Quickly, we stopped our games, and formed ourselves into “sampath” formation
for the closing “Prarthana” (prayer). P.P.Doctorjee was extremely serious. He
stood before us, and spoke to us for less than 2 minutes.
“Today, the unjust British regime has inflected another insult upon all
freedom-loving people, by capriciously extending the unlawful incarceration
of Swatantrya Veer (Freedom fighter-hero) Shri Vinayak D. Sawarkar, for two
more years. This precipitate action is without any rhyme or reason. A great
freedom fighter has been insulted; this is tantamount to insulting all of us.
This is a wanton attack on our national pride and self-respect….” Before he
could finish his sentence, there was a lump in his throat, and tears rolled
down his cheeks. This was like a “Agni Sparsha’ (kindling) of our national
pride in all our hearts. All of us cried on that day for our poor motherland,
Bharat Mata. P.P.Doctorjee had said only a few words, but they kindled an
iron determination in all the young hearts present there, to do their utmost
to overcome the insult to the motherland.
