When the dam on Damodar
river burst (during Keashava's Medical College days), Vardhaman (Bardhaman)
District and nearby areas were flooded. Keshava led all of us to man the relief
centers run by the Ramakrishna mission. We distributed rice, salt, clothing and
blankets to the flood victims. Keshava worked day and night, and he was also
encouraging and inspiring the rest of us. In Gangasagar area the epidemic of
cholera broke out. Keshava lead our group even there, where other doctors were
afraid to go due to the primitive conditions and lack of facilities.
When "Parihar
Samithi" (Relief committee) in Calcutta met and decided that everybody
present should donate Rs. 101/- (a princely sun in 1920) Guess who was the first one to tender his
donation? Keshava did it. Those of us who knew about his dire poverty were
astounded, and dumbfounded by his greatness in doing this!
