Doctorjee was bedridden at
Nasik city for a few days due to high fever. A swayamsevak had washed a towel
used to clean kitchen utensils in the house where Doctorjee was staying.
Doctorjee noticed that there still was a stain on the towel, and he asked the
swayamsevak about it. He replied: "It is a very hard stain to get rid of.
It did not go even though I applied soap and washed it repeatedly".
Doctorjee smiled and said nothing.
After a while, when
everybody sat down for dinner, Doctorjee quietly got up from his bed, went to
the bathroom and re-washed the towel again with plenty of soap. The stain
disappeared. Doctorjee hung it to dry in its original place in the kitchen,
went back to his bed and lay down.
Soon thereafter, everybody
came back, having finished dinner, and they all noticed the sparkling clean
towel drying in the kitchen. Their smiles faded, as they realized that in spite
of his high fever, Doctorjee must have washed the towel. Tears of sorrow began
to flow down from the eyes of the swayamsevak who had washed the towel
originally.
This small incident in
Doctorjee's life taught us a very valuable lesson. We swayamsevaks should try
to work hard and achieve excellence - rather than seek excuses and blame the
circumstances. This is the key to success!
