En-route to a mass rally to
be held at Kharangan, Wardha District, in connection with the Non-Cooperation
movement of 1930, Doctorjee met a Muslim leader of the movement wearing a
Turkish cap in the bus. Curious, he asked the leader as to why he was wearing a
Turkish cap (and not a Gandhi cap) on his way to address the rally as its
highest local leader.
The Muslim gentleman smiled
and said: "Keshavarao, this Turkish cap is a symbol of our Muslim
Nationality, our identity. How can we abandon it?".
Doctorjee had come to the
unambiguous conclusion that seeking support from those who had separatist
National Aspirations, in India's freedom struggle, was as futile as chasing a
marriage. This incident just proved it to him again.
