117. The Story of False Excuses:

P.P.Doctorjee was the editor of a Nagpur newspaper called “Swatantrya” (Freedom). One day, he found on his desk, a note from his sub-editor stating that he would remain absent, since he had a huge stomach-ache.

P.P.Doctorjee, when he saw the note, was at once filled with empathy. He took some medicines and rushed to the sub-editor’s home. He found the sub-editor’s wife alone at home. She innocently explained that her husband had gone to Mr. X’s home for a festive dinner!

P.P.Doctorjee thanked her, and went to Mr. X’s home, since he knew Mr. X very well. Mr. X was delighted to see P.P.Doctorjee. He pulled him to the dining room to have at least a cup of tea. P.P.Doctorjee walked in and there was his sub-editor (supposedly sick with a stomach-ache) eating a big dinner heartily! P.P.Doctorjee did not say anything; he just finished his tea, said his good bye and returned home.

The sub-editor never lied to P.P.Doctorjee again!
