116.  The Story of “Choona”

At a religious function celebrated with much grandeur and pomp at a rich man’s home “Paan” (betel leaves with fillings) were being served after lunch. They are served with a slight smear of “choona” (natural calcium carbonate – lime). Seeing that he had run out, the rich host ordered his personal executive manager to get some urgently. The manager in turn, ordered his own assistant, who in turn passed the order on to his own assistant. For some time, everybody kept on saying “choona”, “choona” but no “choona” arrived.

Seeing this, P.P.Doctorjee told one of his friends where to buy “choona” in the neighborhood, gave him some money, and requested him to get it. It arrived in a few minutes, to the amazement of all present.

Recalling this story many years later, P.P.Doctorjee used to say: “Many people love to preach, and to give vague orders. Only those who build relationships and request precise items (which they can themselves do), will get the real job done.”
