74. Doctorjee Fearlessly Defied Insulting British Regulations:

In the crowded rail road station of Nagpur on a hot afternoon, people were overflowing through most carriages of a train that was soon to depart. Doctorjee and a few of his friends had also purchased tickets to go to a nearby town. Quickly, Doctorjee noticed that a large compartment, reserved exclusively for the white (British) passengers, was completely empty; and its doors were locked to prevent Indians from entering it. Doctorjee quickly got inside the compartment through a window. Seeing this, the outraged ticket collector angrily ordered him to get out, shouting that the compartment was not meant for "bloody Indians like Doctorjee". (The shouter was actually a "bloody Indian" himself!)

Doctorjee calmly replied that he could possibly get out only if the doors to the compartment were unlocked. Cursing and muttering, the ticket collector unlocked the door. Instantly, at Doctorjee's signal, his friends got in through it and occupied the seats. Angrily, the ticket collector went to call in the Station Master and police. As soon as he walked off, Doctorjee invited all the struggling crowd, (which had no space in other compartments and which were completely full). By the time the Station Master arrived, Doctorjee’s compartment was also completely full.

"Get out everyone!" ordered the Station Master. Looking to the angry faces of him and the accompanying two policemen, some people felt afraid and got up, to get out. Doctorjee said: "Please give us another compartment to travel. We will gladly vacate this one". The Station Master angrily shouted: "Lack of space elsewhere is your problem, not mine. If you don't vacate this compartment, your fate will be worse than you can imagine!" At this, some scared people began to move towards the door. Doctorjee courageously shouted to them: "Please sit down. Don't go away!" They stopped.

Seeing that his threats were ineffective, the Station Master (and the policemen) quietly left. All the passengers traveled in relative comfort, and blessed Doctorjee.
