73. Doctorjee Practiced "Sarveshaam Avirodhena":

("In harmony with all, with opposition to none”: Vedic "mantra")

In a public meeting, Dr. Moonje (Doctorjee's close personal friend, and a famous political leader of Nagpur) announced that he had launched a new volunteer cadre with military discipline called "Rama Sena", under the leadership of Doctorjee. Of course, he had not bothered to discuss this with Doctorjee before hand. He thought that if Doctorjee becomes the chief of his "Rama Sena", all swayamsevaks will also automatically join it, and it will grow overnight.

Dr. Moonje was famous for his short temper. So Doctorjee, who valued his friendship and support, had to handle this matter with great delicacy and diplomacy. He said to Dr. Moonje: "Sir, as it is, I am overwhelmed by the rapidly growing work of RSS. Many of our workers are unhappy at my inability to respond to their invitations. Why should this unhappiness affect ‘Rama Sena’ from its inauguration itself? This problem is easily resolved if you appoint another person to head the ‘Rama Sena’ ”. Dr.Moonje agreed, and the matters rested there.

A few days after this incident, Nagpur newspapers carried full page advertisements announcing "Rama Sena’s"  inauguration. They showed a list of dignitaries who supported the idea. Doctorjee's name appeared in that list. Again, this had been done without his consent.

Doctorjee, who was convalescing from a major bout of fever at Rajageer town, was distressed when these newspapers reached him. Public grand standing, in newspapers was anathema to Doctorjee. Moreover, "Rama Sena" had been declared to be violent, anti-social organization. Associating his name (and by implication, the name of RSS) with "Rama Sena" at such a juncture, without prior consent (taking him for granted), appeared to be completely unacceptable to Doctorjee. But dispensing controversial statements to news - media was a very loathsome activity for Doctorjee, who shunned all forms of publicity. So, after much deliberation with fellow RSS workers, he sent a carefully worded response to the largest daily newspaper that had carried the "Rama Sena" advertisement. His response was firm, clear, and yet not offensive to anybody-especially to Dr. Moonje. The words were: "My name has been printed as a supporter of Rama Sena in your newspaper. This printing has been done without taking my prior consent".

This was his first and last media announcement!
