(Note : Hindus go to the
temples and shrines, to look at God's images, and to pray. This process
is called taking the "Darshana" (visualization of God).)
Whenever P.P.Doctorjee
arrived in Pune, he would personally go to render his respects to senior
literary figures, such as Shri N.C,Kelkar, Shri Annarao Bhapatkar, etc.
Most such visits were in boiling hot sunshine, with several miles of walking,
since no one had a vehicle. We swayamsevaks walked with P.P.Doctorjee.
In one such visit to Shri
N.C.Kelkar, the senior author was deeply moved. He said: "P.P.Doctorjee,
what is this - you have walked eight miles in this hot afternoon sun to visit
me - an old man. Of what possible use can I be to you?"
Doctorjee Said : “Tatyarao
ji ("Tatya Rao JI" was an affectionate but respectful nickname for
Shri Kelker ji, a great elderly figure in Marathi literature), I have come
to take your "Darshana" (Note: Hindus respect elders just as
manifestation of God, Thus, seeing an elderly person and paying him respect is
akin to God's "Darshana") and to offer my Pranaam. All I want
is your "Aasheervada"s (blessings)”. [Under these circumstances,
where is the question of personal leadership?]
With a full heart and voice
choking with emotion, Shri Kelar ji said: " Doctorjee, this is but natural
modesty and humility ingrained in you. I am convinced that with such
wonderful qualities, you will win over the heart and soul of the Hindu society,
one day. I will pray to God that He should make you successful in this
very birth (i.e incarnation)."
After we came out,
P.P.Doctorjee smiled and said: "Even God is moved, when we approach him
with a heart full of devotion".
