107. “He saw to the welfare of his society everywhere”

In a visit to Varanasi, P.P.Doctorjee came upon a tower named “Madhawarao Peshwa Dwaara”.  It was named after a well-known Hindu ruler of recent history.  However, the tower, alongwith the adjacent Mosque, had become a Muslim property.  All Hindus had to pay half an anna (about 3 paise, a considerable sum in P.P. Doctorjee’s days) to the Mosque funds, if any one wanted to go to the top of the tower, which afforded a spectacular view of the city, the holy Ganga river and the surroundings.  The Mosque fund was obviously used to convert Hindus to Islam.

Oblivious of this misuse of Mosque funds many Hindus paid, since they could not resist the temptation to see the view from the top.  When he saw this, he was extremely sad.  Not only he did not go himself, he grieved over the foolish disillusionment of the Hindus who closed their eyes to such obvious attacks on their religion.

Just like a mother watching over her child, P.P.Doctorjee was constantly attentive to the injustices meted out to the Hindu society.
