Once, the father of a girl
came to see Doctorjee at 1:00 AM (well past midnight), seeking prospective
bridegrooms for his daughter. Doctorjee made him stay for the night, and after
giving him breakfast next morning, asked him the purpose of his visit, which
the visitor had not told him till then. The visitor was a complete stranger to
Doctorjee.
Upon learning the mission
of his visitor, Doctorjee ask him about the education and qualities the father
desired in his son-in-law, and then gave him a list of several young men who
might have qualified, all from his memory. The prospective
father-in-law and the narrator of this incident were both dumb-founded at
the amazing, vast memory of Doctorjee, as well as his "Sahaja Seva
Vritti" (natural attitude of being helpful even to a complete stranger).
