In our Medical College
classroom, we were chit chatting, waiting for our delayed professor's arrival.
Suddenly I (Dr. Amulya Ghosh) put a friendly challenge to Keshava, my very
close friend. " Let us give boxing blows to each others' shoulders; let
see who wins by withstanding the most blows". Keshava readily offered his
shoulder. I struck him with all my might, he was non-plussed. I continued to
hit, without any effect on him. Finally, I was tired, and I stopped. He stood,
still, with a smile on his face. The whole classroom was watching. Then came
his turn to hit me. His first blow with his clenched, iron fist, shook me to
the root - I could take no more. I yelled, "stop" and he stopped. I
accepted my defeat. Keshava was unaffected by the incident, and we continued to
be the best of friends for the rest of lives.
However, my shoulder gave
me a painful reminder of our "friendly" contest for many weeks after
the incident!
