Inspired by the biography
of Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who started his highly successful campaign
against the oppressive, Foreign Mughal regime at age 13, Keshava planned a scheme
to conquer the Sitaburdi Fort at Nagpur, atop which the British Flag (Union
Jack), was hoisted daily.
In the study room at his
teacher's (Vaze Master's) home, some 15 kids and Keshava began to dig a tunnel,
which would carve out a secret underground passage into the Fort. These young
boys would then enter the Fort and reach into its ammunition store. They could
then cause explosions, which would demolish the wall atop which the Union Jack
flew, and it would come tumbling down.
However, within a few days,
the suspicious Vaze master found out about the plot and was numbed to see the
size of the hole dug into the floor of his room, as a starting point for the
secret tunnel. Though he became upset with Keshava and the boys momentarily,
his anger soon gave way to amazement and admiration. He narrated this incident
with pride to all his listeners for the rest of his life.
Keshava's tunnel project
thus got terminated in its inception itself. So what? Keshava succeeded
magnificently in his lifetime project of exploding away the anti-Bharat forces,
didn't he ?
