In 1901, as a 12 year old
boy, Keshava had sharp intellect and
was keenly interested in guns and weapons. In his high school years, his uncle remarked
that Keshava was more interested in the Freedom Movement. Then the local
commissioner Shri Amrutrai Bumbawale advised him that as a student, it was his
duty to concentrate only on his studies. He could participate in all the
freedom movements after growing up. Keshava said: "Sir, with due respect,
may I state that somebody or the other has to participate in the Freedom
Movement. You are right, I am just a child, and a student. I should
focus on studies. But then, sir, since you are fully grown up, why don't you
participate in one Freedom Struggle? If you do, then students like me can
happily limit themselves to the studies alone".
Needless to say, the
commissioner never dared to advise Keshava again!
