Upon his graduation as a
Medical Doctor, when Keshava returned to Nagpur, many parents of marriageable
girls began to approach him. One proposal offered Keshava the lure of a dowry
of Rs.4000, another, studies with all expenses paid!
At first, Keshava
respectfully excused himself under the pretext that he did not want to think
about his own marriage until his elder brother (cousin) got married. But then
that cousin's marriage took place, and Keshava was left without any excuse.
When proposal after proposal began to bombard on him, he wrote me (Shri Abaji
Hedgewar, his father's brother) that he was not at all interested in marriage.
He reasoned that his aim was to be completely dedicated to Bharat's freedom
struggle, in which he might face possible imprisonment, torture and even death.
Under such circumstances, it would not be wise to get married, and then put the
wife's life in jeopardy. Reluctantly, Keshava's family had to agree.
Charged as he was with fire
of patriotic ideals, how could worldly life attract Keshava?
